How to introduce this clip
“Three of the four gospel accounts tell us the story of a woman who had suffered terribly from an issue of bleeding, and when she shows up in The Chosen, it’s incredibly moving. The creators of the show use their imaginations to color in her backstory to help us truly feel the depth of her agony, the depth of her pain, and I want to show you one of these imagined moments. To set the scene just a bit, you’re going to watch as two of Jesus’s disciples happen upon the woman at her campsite and eventually, a conversation unfolds. Let’s watch and listen in…”
*If your church does not know about The Chosen, before you show the scene, you might also want to tell them the following: “The Chosen is a television show that tells the story of Jesus through the eyes of the people who knew him.”
Discussion Questions
1. You can see that the woman’s hope is fading. What causes your hope to fade? When have you experienced a lack of hope?
2. At just the sight and even mere mention of Jesus, new hope was sparked in the woman for healing. Where have you experienced that with Jesus in your own life? (Follow-up question: where in your life could you use fresh hope?)
3. How do you feel when you think about the possibility of renewed hope after being disappointed for so long?
4. The woman in this scene is determined to touch Jesus because she knows one touch will heal her. When have you exhibited a faith that moved you to act, and what was the result?
5. What obstacle are you facing or what area of your life requires an increased amount of faith?
